‘The Running Man’ teases Glen Powell in Stephen King’s nightmarish gameshow

It’s another bumper year for Stephen King adaptations, and in particular novels he wrote under his pen name. Not long ago we had the trailer for The Long Walk, and now we have one for Edgar Wright’s adaptation of The Running Man — both early stories of King’s written under his Richard Bachman pseudonym, which appear in the collection The Bachman Books.

Set in a dystopian future where people living in poverty are forced to take part in life-or-death gameshows for money, The Running Man sees Glen Powell entering the titular contest. “The rules are simple,” growls Josh Brolin’s narration in the trailer. “Survive 30 days with the entire nation hunting you down.”

One of the stories that set the tone for dystopian survival thrillers to come, it’ll be interesting to see Wright’s take on this classic thriller which had a 1987 adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Running Man hit cinemas Nov. 7.
